Women’s Empowerment and Elective Caesarean Section for a Single Pregnancy: A Demographic and Multivariate Study in Vietnam

Vietnam is one of the countries in the world with the highest increase in caesarean section rates between 1990 and 2015. It is also a country where the emancipation of women has accelerated in the last decade. A Franco-Vietnamese research team has found an association between women’s empowerment and the use of a scheduled Caesarean section before the onset of labour. In this article, the authors explore the reasons for this association. The lack of information on the risks of Caesarean section is one explanation.
